The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is a leading European specialist in mineral reserve assessment, research and sustainable use. We are seeking a highly motivated senior scientist to our Ore Geology and Mineral Economics unit. The position is located in our Espoo, Kuopio or Rovaniemi office.
Building capacity in minerals intelligence and foresight know-how is one of GTK focus areas in the coming years. Hence, we are seeking a Senior Scientist to develop our expertise and R&I project activities related to this applied field of geosciences.
In this position you will have an integral role in developing the research at GTK within this emerging field by implementing, preparing and managing national and international research projects with other team members and GTK personnel. Besides applied research in jointly funded projects, you will contribute to various commercial or custom made studies to GTK clients.
The applicant must have a PhD degree in geosciences or another discipline with close relationship to exploration and mining industry. We expect the applicant to be highly motivated and have a good track record in research. The applicant should also have well-established networks and be able to demonstrate an ability to attract external funding. Experience of at least three of the following subjects is required:
• Scenarios and foresight
• Material flows and life cycles
• Circular economy
• Mineral economics
• Minerals policy and legal frameworks
• Socio-economic and environmental aspects of minerals exploration and mining
• Mineral statistics: production, collation, utilization and interpretation
• Macro economy, it`s theories and applications
In addition we expect the applicant to have good teamwork skills. Also visionary and development oriented approach is highly preferred. Fluency in English is a minimum language requirement.

The position is permanent, starting in 2018 upon applicant availability. Beginning salary will be between 3 780–4 540 euros/month depending on experience and qualifications.
