Hydrometallurgy and bioprocessing

Our laboratory’s hydrometallurgy expertise includes cyanide leaching of gold, various types of acid leaching methods for ores and slag, as well as pressure leaching.

We can conduct hydrometallurgical studies as batch studies or on a continuous scale.

Bioprocessing

The bioprocessing research conducted in GTK’s mineral technology laboratory aims at environmentally friendly and cost-efficient use of mineral resources. The goal is to reduce the energy consumption of beneficiation processes (such as flotation and leaching) with biotechnology, thus offering more cost-effective processes than before.

Microbes can be used to reduce or even avoid using chemicals, which will directly influence not only processing costs but also the environment. Our laboratory conducts bioleaching studies to separate metals from sulphide ores, for example. Studying the application of bioleaching on various slag materials and industrial side products is one of our newest research areas.
