New Policy Briefs from the Geological Survey of Finland Bring Geoscientific Knowledge to Support Decision-Making
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) has begun publishing policy briefs during the spring. A policy brief is a concise document that provides a research-based overview of a topical issue. In addition, it offers knowledge to support decision-making. Initially, policy briefs will be published on all of GTK’s strategic focus areas.
A total of seven policy briefs will be published by summer – one for each of GTK’s key research focus areas. The topics are: availability of critical raw materials, circular economy of minerals, sustainable water resources, energy transition, geoenvironment, geophysical applications, and geoscience-information solutions.
“Geosciences have a lot to contribute to many current topics. As an impartial research institution in this field, we believe it is important to provide the knowledge and expertise generated through our research to support decision-making – also in the form of policy briefs,” says Aku Heinonen, Director, Science and Innovations at GTK.
The policy briefs are published primarily in Finnish and English. In the future, GTK will also release thematic policy briefs that provide insights and recommendations on various current issues.
