Research Results for Mineral-Potential Areas Published
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) continuously produces information on the occurrence potential of metals and minerals in Finland. GTK often conducts surveys in areas that also attract mineral exploration companies. To ensure uninterrupted investigations and GTK’s impartiality, GTK has applied for a mineral exploration permit for certain areas in accordance with the Mining Act. In connection with this, GTK will submit a relinquishment notice to the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) regarding the exploration area applications for Korpela (Joroinen) and Pintamo (Pudasjärvi) on December 12, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.

Extensive geological studies and bedrock sampling have been carried out at both research sites. The studies have provided information on the mineral potential of the areas, including copper, zinc, nickel, and platinum group elements (PGE). The research results for Pintamo have previously been published, for instance, as a GTK working report.
The goal of GTK’s statutory operations is to create and maintain high-quality international-level geological information and expertise, and to produce innovation for society and the business sector. Through its activities, the research organisation promotes the competitiveness of business life and regions and supports the planning and execution of societal policy. GTK is an impartial non-profit expert organisation that operates independently in relation to its customers.
