Frequently asked questions to help you use the service.
OmaKivi is a mobile app and online service for anyone who wants to collect rock, boulder, and bedrock observations electronically. If you have a sample of ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone, you can submit it for analysis to the Geological Survey of Finland GTK.
The OmaKivi service is completely free of charge. Analysis of the layman’s samples is also free. As layman’s samples, GTK only analyses ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone samples.
The service is provided and maintained by the Geological Survey of Finland GTK.
You can use the OmaKivi service by downloading the app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
The app’s name is OmaKivi in both stores.
The service can be used in an offline mode for saving observations.
Users can save their incomplete observations and continue filling in the information later.
Saved observations are accessible only to the user.
All observations sent with the app are automatically entered in the competition. The samples should be ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone samples.
The rights to all observations sent for analysis are transferred to the Geological Survey of Finland GTK.
GTK analyses all sent observations that fulfill the requirements for a layman’s sample. If an observation seems promising financially or for research purposes, the user will be asked to send the sample in for further analysis. Layman’s sample is an ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone sample.
