What is the OmaKivi service?

OmaKivi is a mobile app and online service for anyone who wants to collect rock, boulder, and bedrock observations electronically. If you have a sample of ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone, you can submit it for analysis to the Geological Survey of Finland GTK.

Do I have to pay to use OmaKivi?

The OmaKivi service is completely free of charge. Analysis of the layman’s samples is also free. As layman’s samples, GTK only analyses ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone samples.

Who provides the OmaKivi service?

The service is provided and maintained by the Geological Survey of Finland GTK.

What devices can I use OmaKivi with?

You can use the OmaKivi service by downloading the app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

What is the app’s name in the App Store and Google Play store?

The app’s name is OmaKivi in both stores.

Do I have to be connected to the internet to use OmaKivi?

The service can be used in an offline mode for saving observations.

Can I continue to edit an observation later?

Users can save their incomplete observations and continue filling in the information later.

Who can see the observations I have saved?

Saved observations are accessible only to the user.

Can I enter the observations I send with the OmaKivi service in the layman’s sample competition?

All observations sent with the app are automatically entered in the competition. The samples should be ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone samples.

Who owns the rights to the observations sent for analysis?

The rights to all observations sent for analysis are transferred to the Geological Survey of Finland GTK.

When does GTK ask for a rock sample to be sent in for further analysis?

GTK analyses all sent observations that fulfill the requirements for a layman’s sample. If an observation seems promising financially or for research purposes, the user will be asked to send the sample in for further analysis. Layman’s sample is an ore, industrial mineral, construction stone, or gemstone sample.

I forgot my OmaKivi password. What do I do?

You can request a password reset on the OmaKivi service web page with the ‘I forgot my password’ link. Click the link to receive an email that will allow you to reset your password.

How can I delete my OmaKivi user account?

You can delete your user account at any time from the ‘My information’ menu.
