GTK Is a Good Place to Work According to the Newest Personnel Survey
Development in the internal employer image and increase in satisfaction with pay are highlighted in the results of the latest personnel survey of Geological Survey of Finland.
The Geological Survey of Finland annually collects data on GTK employees’ job satisfaction with the state’s personnel survey VMBaro. This was again the case in October 2023, when GTK people shared their experiences of their own work, work community, supervisors and leadership, and salary through the survey.
According to the results, GTK people give the best assessments to GTK as a workplace, to their own work, to the fairness of the work community, and to supervisors’ work. Knowledge of GTK’s values has increased, and the realisation of the values in everyday life is in good shape. In leadership, among other things, the fairness of the supervisor and support in work receive good reviews from GTK people. Awarness of the goals of one’s own work and the appeal and challenge of the work have increased compared to the previous year. Culture-wise, fair treatment of co-workers and the appreciation of work and competence are at a high level, among other things. Also, according to the open answers, many GTK people think GTK has a good, trusting working atmosphere, and helping others is self-evident.
The survey also measured the development of the experiences of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI), as these topics, among others, have been the in the organisation’s focus over the past year. According to the results of the employee survey, the experience of equality and gender equality has increased at GTK.
“The results show that our work is bearing fruit,” says Riikka Mäki, Director of Human Resources, Talent Management and Legal Affairs at GTK.
“Over the past year, we set up a DEI network of GTK people to work on issues of inclusion and equality. We developed a language policy for our work community to strengthen equality in the accessibility of GTK’s internal information and discussions. We also increased the amount of DEI communication, and organised a number of expert talks and coaching sessions on the subject. We have a good ground to continue the work.”
According to the results of the survey, satisfaction with pay also developed significantly: the clarity and comprehensibility of the basics of pay, the relation to the demands of work, the development with work performance, and fairness received better reviews than in previous years.
“Based on previous results, we have invested in salary-related training and communication. It is a pleasure to note that we have taken steps forward and the satisfaction of GTK people has increased,” Mäki says.
Overall, the results of the personnel survey indicate that GTK is perceived as a good place to work. Mäki says that GTK will continue to invest in GTK people’ job satisfaction and coping at work, as well as supervisor work and leadership.
“We have the goal of strengthening the human-focused working life in our just-renewed strategy. With that goal, we want to further nurture practices that increase the experience of meaningfulness and balance in work, as well as equality and cohesion in GTK.”
