GTK Training Course: Applying UNFC – Classification and Reporting of Mineral Projects
Date: 24.09.2025 - 25.09.2025Location: Onsite training at Helsinki metropolitan area, Finland (exact venue to be confirmed)Date: 24-25 September 2025
Format: Onsite training course (no online participation)
Location: Helsinki metropolitan area, Finland (exact venue to be confirmed)
With increasing global demand for critical raw materials and the implementation of the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, the ability to classify and report mineral projects in line with international frameworks is more important than ever.
This GTK training course gives you a comprehensive and practical understanding of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) – a global standard for classifying, managing, and communicating the maturity and sustainability of mineral resources.
Through expert-led sessions and hands-on case studies, you’ll learn to:
- Understand the fundamentals of UNFC
- Understand why UNFC is used in the context of the CRMA
- Apply UNFC to mineral resource projects
- Use the CRIRSCO–UNFC Bridging Document in practice
- Classify mineral projects under UNFC, either as a standalone report or part of a CP report
To whom
This training course is ideal for professionals in geology, mining, and resource management who want to apply UNFC in real-world contexts. Whether you’re responsible for resource reporting, advising on classification, or working with raw material strategies, this course equips you with actionable skills.
Why is it important to understand UNFC classification?
The United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) is a global standard for classifying, managing, and reporting energy, mineral, and raw material resources. UNFC provides a consistent and transparent method for communicating the maturity and sustainability of resource projects. Among other advantages, the UNFC can be used to support investment decisions, policy development, and sustainable resource management by identifying the enablers and barriers to the development and implementation of a project. Within the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), UNFC is identified as the primary system for reporting and harmonizing raw material projects.
