GTK open licence for data and products

Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) provides access to data and products under its ownership. GTK-granted licences include:

• Basic License
• Open License (compatible with CC Attribution 4.0 International) (this license) complemented by:
• Thesis license
• Data Material cooperation licence

Open License 1.2 is valid from 1 December 2025. The user must provide a copy of the licence or its link.

GTK Open Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 -product licence

Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) open products are licenced under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International.

The licence requires naming the Data Material source as required by the licensor. GTK may at any time request deletion of naming information and copyright labels to the extent possible.

Compliance with the license requires a copyright notice that may include:

  • the Material publication date;
  • the Material revision;
  • the name of the publisher, and;
  • any other information relevant for identification of the data

Disclaimer information must be retained as indicated in the license. The source information must include a hyperlink to the original Material website whenever technically feasible.

Any edits to the Material must be indicated and the revised version must include a link to the original Material.

The Material must include a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 label and a hyperlink to the license.

Example of a recommended copyright label:
Name of the licensor, name and time when the Material was provided by GTK Example:
“GTK Open License CC Attribution 4.0, includes material from GTK Maaperä 1:20 000 / 1:50 000, accessed in Hakku on 1 June 2025”
