Webinar: Geoenergialoikka – Accelerating the Energy Transition
Date: 24.11.2026 - 26.11.2026Location: Online
Date: Tuesday, 24 November 2026 and Thursday, 26 November 2026, 9:00-12:00 (EET)
Venue: Webinar, registration required
Language: Finnish
Mitigating climate change requires substantial and permanent reduction in the use of fossil fuels. In northern latitudes, renewable and low-carbon energy solutions are needed especially for heat generation. Could we strengthen regional energy self-sufficiency with geothermal energy?
The Geoenergialoikka project, a joint effort involving five research organisations and three Finnish regions, created an exceptionally comprehensive knowledge base for the utilisation of geothermal energy in Finland. The project established unique research and development environments for geothermal energy and generated practical experience in the design and construction of medium-deep geothermal energy wells.
The project’s final two-part webinar will present the key research findings and explore the potential of geothermal energy as a sustainable solution for heat production. Topics include:
- How medium-deep geothermal energy wells can support heat production.
- The implementation of medium-deep geothermal energy wells in Central Ostrobothnia, Northern Ostrobothnia, and Kymenlaakso, and the lessons learned from them.
- New research findings on bedrock properties and their impact on site selection and energy yield.
- Method development for improving the efficiency and implementation of geothermal energy projects.
The webinar will provide up-to-date information on the potential of geothermal energy as part of local energy solutions, as well as practical insights for planning and implementing future projects.
Who should attend
The webinar is intended for companies operating in the geothermal energy and energy sectors, drilling companies, representatives of municipalities and regional authorities, decision-makers, public authorities, planners, experts, and anyone interested in geothermal energy and the energy sector.
Programme and registration
The webinar is held in Finnish. The full webinar programme and the registration link are available on the Finnish webpage.

Geoenergy Leap to Renewable Energy Production
Geoenergialoikka is a research, development and investment project co-funded by the European Union. The funding has been granted by the Regional Council of Central Ostrobothnia. The project is implemented by the Geological Survey of Finland GTK as the coordinator, together with Centria University of Applied Sciences, South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk), Oulu University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Oulu.
