Better geodata for better decisions on critical raw materials

DATA 4 CRM strengthens geological knowledge, digital tools and professional expertise to support the responsible development of critical raw materials in Central Asia. The project brings together geosector organisations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan with expertise from Finland and Europe.

From geological data to knowledge

The project improves how geological data is collected, digitised, managed, analysed and shared. Modern geological methods, GIS, geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing and drone technologies are used to improve understanding of mineral potential and support exploration and decision-making. The transport of contaminants in groundwater is studied using groundwater flow modelling, and mineral-rich groundwater is analysed to assess its potential for mineral extraction.

Building expertise and regional cooperation

DATA 4 CRM develops professional skills through training and practical pilot activities. It also explores the potential of mining waste and secondary raw materials, supporting more circular use of mineral resources. Regional cooperation and the development of the Central Asian Geoportal will help make geological information more accessible and strengthen knowledge-sharing across the region.
