Introduction

Li Path Finland investigates the geological processes that control the movement and concentration of lithium (and other elements) in the Finnish continental crust. Lithium is a critical raw material for rechargeable batteries and the global transition towards low-carbon energy solutions, making a better understanding of its geological enrichment increasingly important.

The project focuses on western Finland and aims to improve our understanding of how lithium becomes concentrated from source rocks into economically significant mineral deposits. By combining geological observations, geochemical studies, and modelling approaches, the project will examine the links between crustal evolution, rock transformation processes, and lithium mineralization.

The knowledge generated will support the development of new concepts for critical mineral exploration in Finland and contribute to international research on the formation of lithium-bearing deposits.
