MONISEIS – Multichannel seismic sounding as a method for scientific research and the derivation of seabed geotechnical properties
- Project research area
- Geoenvironment
- Project duration
- 01.03.2025 - 31.12.2028
Introduction
The project will take into use the first marine multichannel seismic system in Finland. The new multichannel seismic system will be acquired for GTK’s research vessel Geomari in 2025 with funding from the Finnish Marine Research Infrastructure FINMARI.
The marine multichannel seismic survey technique provides a more comprehensive image of the seabed geological properties than traditional single-channel surveys, such as the structure and physical properties of sediment and rock formations. The adoption of the new method will enable collecting more detailed information for scientific research and for the determination of seabed geotechnical properties, for example for the construction of offshore wind power.
