Introduction

According to the recent studies in Sodankylä area, weathered bedrock may have a role in water circulation, and its properties should be considered in water balance calculations and risk assessments at the mining activity areas/mining development sites. The information regarding the thickness of weathered bedrock is limited in Finland, and more detailed information is clustered to studied sites, e.g., Sodankylä.

This research plan applies machine learning (ML) methods to predict the thickness of weathered bedrock (saprolite) in Central Finnish Lapland. For this task, we will choose a suitable ML method.
