(Support for stone industry and cross border market chains i.e. geology, production, applications, and traditions) = NaStA

Natural stones has been used in many historical and famous constructions and buildings in NW Russia and in South-East Finland. Especially in the St. Petersburg area, most of the historical constructions and buildings have been built using natural stones. The major part of the old traditional stones utilized in buildings and in street and road constructions in St Petersburg, originates from old quarries located in South-East Finland. The historical centre of St. Petersburg is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The built stone heritage in the urban area has shown signs of damages and has undergone renovation activities in recent years.

The projects aims to support and improve the operational environment of the SMEs by increasing knowledge on natural stones used in historical constructions, their origin and possible substitutes in renovation works. Increasing skills in the branch of project activities to develop and promote knowledge based on natural stone business opportunities. Supporting networking activities, creation of a framework for logistic cluster and natural stone commercial activities. Preserving and revitalizing the cultural and historical natural stone heritage and image in the project area and supporting tourism and tourism business.
